26 May 2016 Riding in the Sacred Valley & Train to Machu Picchu

What a day!  After spending a lovely evening in Cusco, we departed early the next morning for the sacred valley.  Taking our time to wind down the narrow roads into the valley, gave us many opportunities to take some beautiful photos.

When we arrived in the valley, our horses were waiting for us – and we set off on one of the most beautiful rides in Peru.  Riding along the Urbamba river, we passed ancient ruins, wild horses, and many other incredible sights.

As afternoon set in, we prepared to board our scenic train to Aguas Calientes – the only way to get to Machu Picchu.  The train ride was absolutely stunning, and we arrived into the small little town at the base of Machu Picchu right as the sun was setting.  From Aguas Calientes, you can’t see the ancient ruins – so obviously we were very excited to wake up tomorrow to photograph the beautiful mountains.

4:00am can’t come soon enough!
