How I survived 1 Month in Antarctica
Hello, I’m Kylie & welcome to Antarctica. I’ve been here for over 30 days and many people are wondering… How did I survive 1 month in Antarctica?Over the years many people have risked their lives to travel Antarctica, document its wildlife, and conduct research. The efforts of these early explorers made it possible for researchers, naturalists, & we…..people just like you and I to visit!
Nowadays traveling to Antarctica is much more accessible and comfortable.
You start from Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the starting point for nearly all expeditions to Antarctica. Many people wonder, how do you actually get to Antarctica? Is it safe? Is it cold? The list of questions goes on and on…
One of the few ways to travel to Antarctica is by ice breaker. There is a limited window of time in which you can visit (November to March), or summer season in the Southern Hemisphere when the ice has melted enough to navigate a ship.
On the ship there are nice cabins (usually 100+ of them), a large dining hall, a lounge, and even a library. You travel with an expedition team, who are expert researchers in the bird life, plant life, geology, and so much many other subjects…
You spend half your days at sea and there are actually a lot of things to do. Like watching for birds, spotting whales, dining on delicious meals, learning from expert researchers, and much much more!
You may even visit Islands near Antarctica(such as the Falkland Islands and South Georgia) two of the best places to see large penguin colonies!
So how did I survive Antarctica? By hanging out with penguins, experiencing stunning landscapes, and climbing atop massive icebergs.
Traveling to Antarctica was by far one of the best experiences of my life!
