Hello, it’s been a while! But I’m back…
I just returned from the most incredible trip to Turkey with 6 other Girl Boss Women (Allie, Kiri, Shianne, Sophie, Taryn, & Heather). These trips are my favorite, as it’s a time not only for me to explore & travel (which I love) but connect with other powerful women who are doing incredible things in the world.
This isn’t my first time to Turkey, I’ve been before because I LOVE IT THAT MUCH.
Our itinerary includes 3 major regions in Turkey, Cappadocia & Goreme, Istanbul, and Pamukkale & Ephesus. If you visit Turkey, do not miss these 3 areas.
Our first stop – Goreme (more commonly known as Cappadocia). This is the place in Turkey that you always see photos of. Thousands of Fairy Chimneys, Hundreds of Balloons, and Dozens of Cave hotels you can actually stay in.
Many people think going up in a balloon is scary, but actually the ride is very smooth. The pilots know what they are doing (I hope). Balloons aside, when in Goreme you MUST visit Derinkuyu — The largest underground city in the world. It is over 3.2 square kilometers in size and goes underground 150 meters (or 8 stories). They engineered everything down to the smallest details, including an oxygen ventilation system… so people didn’t suffocate to death…
Second Stop — Istanbul, the Largest City in Europe (with 15 million+ people) and a major stop on your way to pretty much anywhere in the area (I’ve probably routed through Istanbul over a dozen times). It’s a gorgeous city with SO MUCH TO DO.
We stayed just steps away from the Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Egyption Spice Market, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace — and explored every inch of the city that we could. The Hagia Sophie and Blue Mosque are both working mosques, which means covering your head, taking off your shoes, and showing respect when you enter is a MUST.
Istanbuk is also known as CAT city — for good reason, as it has over 1 Million cats that people collectively take care of. They feed them & give them shelter — even our hotel adopted a cat that slept in the same chair in their lobby every single night. Now this is my kind of place!
On your next trip to Europe, don’t forget a stop in Turkey.
